Research Trainees undergo a one year training in Radio Astronomy techniques after successful completion of which they are offered a regular research staff position. Their work is also expected to lead to Ph.D. degree. Research Scholars are also selected via one of the three main examinations the Joint Entrance Screening Test, the IUCAA-NCRA Admission Test and the TIFR entrance test Selected students do a year of course work in physics and astrophysics as well as a six month project before starting their Ph.D. work. It is to be mentioned that Ph.D. recipients from TIFR are well regarded and have been offered excellent positions in India and abroad.
