Student Program

Student Opportunities:

                             Highly motivated students with an outstanding academic record and aptitude for experimental work are selected periodically as Research Trainees at NCRA. Research Trainees should have an M.Sc. (Physics) or a B.E./B.Tech. degree. Students with an engineering background should also have a sound foundation in Physics. Research Trainees undergo a one year training in Radio Astronomy techniques after successful completion of which they are offered a regular research staff position. Their work is also expected to lead to Ph.D. degree. Research Scholars are also selected via one of the three main examinations the Joint Entrance Screening Test, the IUCAA-NCRA Admission Test and the TIFR entrance test Selected students do a year of course work in physics and astrophysics as well as a six month project before starting their Ph.D. work. It is to be mentioned that Ph.D. recipients from TIFR are well regarded and have been offered excellent positions in India and abroad.

                                Students of M.Sc./B.E./B.Tech. courses with strong academic interest are generally selected every year to take up short term or long term technical projects. Numerous visitors from schools, colleges and public interested in astronomy and astrophysics visit RAC throughout the year. The RAC acts as a source of inspiration for young budding scientists and engineers and its staff members provide focused guidance for the future generation of our country.
